FAQ
Questions we get, answered honestly
Including the ones where the answer is a limitation rather than a feature.
The time clock
How does the geofence work?
Each location has a radius you set. When someone clocks in, their device reports its position and the server — not the phone — decides whether the punch is inside it. Doing that check server-side is the whole point; a check that runs on the phone can be talked out of its answer.
What if an employee has no GPS or denies location?
They still clock in. The punch is recorded and flagged for review instead of blocked. Nobody should be standing at work unable to start their shift because of a permissions dialog.
What happens when someone forgets to clock out?
An overnight job closes the punch so it stops accruing hours, and flags it in the timecard queue. It is never silently trimmed to look normal — a manager sees it and confirms the real end time.
Can two locations share one building?
Yes. When geofences overlap, the clock asks which site the person is working rather than guessing — the case that broke every tool we tried.
Scheduling
Can I see all my locations at once?
That's the default. One weekly grid shows every location with coverage and labor hours per day, and you filter down to a single site only when you want to.
Do staff see a schedule before it's ready?
No. Drafts stay private until you publish, and publishing is what notifies people.
How do open shifts get filled?
Post the gap and qualified staff can claim it from their phone. Whoever claims it is scheduled immediately, and you can see who took what.
Payroll
Which payroll systems do you export to?
Gusto and QuickBooks CSV today, with weekly overtime already split correctly so you're not doing that math in a spreadsheet.
How is overtime calculated?
By the workweek you define, across every location a person worked. Someone who splits hours between two of your sites still gets one correct overtime calculation.
Can hours change after payroll runs?
Not once the period is locked. Locking is deliberate and it holds, so the file you sent and the record in ShiftArc can never disagree.
Getting started
How long does setup take?
Most operations are scheduling in ShiftArc the same week. We help import your staff list and draw your first geofences during onboarding.
Do employees need to install an app?
No. Everything staff need — clocking in, checking shifts, claiming open work, finishing checklists — runs in the browser on the phone they already carry.
What does it cost?
$49 per location per month with unlimited staff and every feature included. No per-employee pricing, no annual contract.
